What should I do? SWITCH TO THE OTHER USB PORT ON THE PS4. Is there a way to make the above edit a sticky or something? My USB flash drive started flashing red again, and within a few minutes (2 or 3 minutes), it initialized.

To Initialize PS4 (Reinstall system software). I waited about a minute or so, then I selected the last option. So I restarted the PS4, without taking my USB flash drive out, booted to the Safe Mode option list. At first, it was giving me the error that it wasn't connected. I thought, "what difference would that make?" As soon as I plugged it in, it started flashing red. I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner, but someone had suggested, in another, older thread either on reddit or on playstation's forum to try using the other port, the one furthest from the power button. I wanted to thank everyone has commented me and messaged me, you're all wonderful.
